5 Home Design Must-Haves for Busy Families

With back to school season on the horizon, the one thing we are short on is time.  So, make sure your space works well for you to be most efficient during the school year. Spaces should have specific purposes and some should even serve double duty.

1- Homework Central: Large Island
What’s trending?  Large islands.  Yes, they look cool but they are also extremely functional. While mom prepares snacks, preps dinner or packs tomorrow’s lunches the minis can sit at the counter and pound away at their math and science homework.

2- Within View: Breakfast Nook

Having a place that serves double duty is key and in this Riverwoods kitchen, we created an informal breakfast nook which also functions as a homework station. Mom & Dad can be within view as they do food prep.

3- Grab & Go: Beverage Center

Under-counter beverage center, perfect for grab and go items- juice boxes and snacks at a reachable height for the peanuts.

4- Adults Only: Bedroom Coffee Bar

Mom and Dad deserve to have their own space. This coffee bar and beverage center located in the master bedroom of this Wicker Park Victorian is perfect for early mornings and nightcaps after a hard day.

5- A Place for Everything: Mudroom

The mudroom is a catch-all and a perfect accouterment to this Highland Park kitchen. It includes ample storage for shoes, backpacks, and coats. Now there is no excuse for a mess.
